HBO Max, Legendary develop cult drama
WarnerMedia-owned US streamer HBO Max and prodco Legendary Television have signed a multi-script development deal for a limited series based on the true story of a notorious Cuban American cult leader and serial killer.
Brujo will play out through the eyes of Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo’s two most unlikely followers, who helped his rise to fame in the 1980s as a witch doctor for celebrities, politicians, police offers and crime families, through his evolution into a notorious cult leader and serial killer, and ultimately his downfall.
The Spanish- and English-language series stars Diego Boneta as Constanzo, who also serves as exec producer with writer Daniel Krauze and director Humberto Hinojosa. The three already work together on Netflix biopic Luis Miguel: La Serie.
Pablo Garcia will produce alongside Hinojosa under their company Tigre Pictures. Automatik will also serve as a producer.
